Video to GIF Converter

Turn any MP4, WebM or MOV video into an animated GIF. Pick the part you want, choose the size and smoothness, and download — free, no watermark, and your video never leaves your device.

About the Video to GIF Converter

A GIF plays automatically and loops everywhere — in chats, emails, forums, documentation and README files — without a play button or a video player. The Video to GIF Converter by Each Convert turns a short part of any video into an animated GIF. You choose exactly where it starts and ends, how wide it is and how smooth it plays, and the whole conversion runs inside your browser, so even private clips stay on your device.

How to Convert a Video to GIF

  1. Drop your video into the box above, or click it to choose one.
  2. The whole video is selected, up to the first 45 seconds. To use a different part, type the start and end seconds.
  3. Pick a width and frames per second. 480 px at 10 FPS suits most uses.
  4. Press Convert to GIF, check the preview, then Download GIF.

Tips for a Small, Sharp GIF

  • Keep it short — every second adds frames. 2 to 6 seconds is ideal for chats and social posts.
  • Width matters most — a 480 px GIF is roughly half the size of a 640 px one.
  • 10 FPS is usually enough — use 15 or 20 FPS only for fast motion such as games or sports.
  • Smooth colours — GIFs can show only 256 colours per frame; dithering hides the colour bands in skies and faces.
  • Screen recordings — record with our Online Screen Recorder, then turn the clip into a GIF here.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The video is played and turned into a GIF entirely inside your browser. It never leaves your device, so the tool is safe for private clips.

Which video formats are supported?

Any video your browser can play: MP4 (H.264) works everywhere, WebM works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and MOV videos from an iPhone work in Safari. Files up to 500 MB can be opened.

How long can the GIF be?

Up to 45 seconds. If you pick a longer part of the video, the start or end moves so the clip stays at 45 seconds. GIFs get large quickly, so short clips of 2 to 10 seconds work best.

How do I make the GIF file smaller?

Choose a smaller width (320 or 480 px), a lower FPS (10 is usually enough), fewer colours (64 or 128 often look almost the same) and a shorter clip. Turning off Smooth colours also saves some space, but gradients may show bands.

Does the GIF have sound or a watermark?

GIF is an image format, so it never has sound. Each Convert adds no watermark — the GIF is entirely yours.
