Smaller size uses light compression for the biggest savings, ideal for photos. Lossless keeps every pixel exactly the same — best for PNG graphics.

About the JPG / PNG to WebP Converter

WebP is a modern image format from Google that produces much smaller files than JPG and PNG at similar visual quality. Smaller images mean faster page loads, better Core Web Vitals and less bandwidth. The WebP Converter by Each Convert turns your JPG and PNG files into WebP in a couple of clicks.

Unlike most online converters, it runs libwebp — the same encoder used by Google's cwebp tool and FFmpeg — directly in your browser. In Lossless mode the image is decoded and re-encoded pixel for pixel, so the WebP is mathematically identical to your original.

How to Convert JPG or PNG to WebP

  1. Drop your JPG or PNG images into the box above, or click it to choose files.
  2. Keep Smaller size and set the quality (75%–80% suits most photos), or choose Lossless for zero quality change.
  3. Press Convert to WebP and compare the old and new file sizes. You'll be warned if a WebP comes out larger than the original.
  4. Download each image or use Download All.

Why Use WebP Images?

  • Smaller files — in Google's tests, WebP photos were about 30% smaller than JPEG at similar visual quality.
  • Lossless option — lossless WebP is typically 20–25% smaller than PNG with exactly the same pixels.
  • Transparency — keeps transparent backgrounds like PNG.
  • Wide support — works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
  • Better SEO — faster images help page speed, which search engines reward.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens entirely inside your browser using Google's libwebp encoder compiled to WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device, so the tool is safe for private or confidential pictures.

Will converting to WebP reduce my image quality?

Not in Lossless mode. The tool uses Google's libwebp encoder in lossless mode, so every pixel of the WebP is exactly the same as your original. Smaller size mode uses lossy compression, which makes files much smaller with changes that are very hard to see.

How much smaller will my images be?

PNG images usually become 20–25% smaller in Lossless mode with no quality change at all. JPG photos are already compressed, so use Smaller size mode: at 75–80% quality they typically shrink by 5–30%, and more for high-quality camera photos. The tool shows the original and new size of every image.

Why is my WebP larger than the original JPG?

A JPG has already thrown away some detail to save space. Lossless WebP stores the JPG's pixels exactly, including its compression artifacts, which usually takes more space than the JPG itself. For JPG files, choose Smaller size mode — or keep the original if it is already small.

Does WebP keep transparent backgrounds from PNG?

Yes. WebP supports transparency, so transparent areas in your PNG images are kept after conversion.

What quality setting should I use in Smaller size mode?

A quality between 75% and 80% is a good balance for most website photos. Use a higher value for detailed photos, or a lower one when the smallest file size matters most.
