| Pixels | Points | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 12px | 9pt | Small labels, captions |
| 14px | 10.5pt | Secondary text |
| 16px | 12pt | Default body text on the web |
| 18px | 13.5pt | Large body text |
| 20px | 15pt | Subheadings |
| 24px | 18pt | Section headings |
| 32px | 24pt | Page headings |
| 48px | 36pt | Display titles |
A point is 1/72 of an inch and CSS uses 96 pixels per inch, so:
pt = px × 72 ÷ 96 = px × 0.75
Example: 14 px × 0.75 = 10.5 pt. Word accepts half-point sizes, so 10.5 pt can be typed in directly. For the reverse, see PT to PX.
14 px = 10.5 pt.
16 px = 12 pt, the same as the default 1 rem body text on the web.
20 px = 15 pt, and 24 px = 18 pt.
CSS defines 1 inch as 96 px, and a point is 1/72 of an inch. 72 ÷ 96 = 0.75, so each pixel is three quarters of a point.
